Where They Came From: The Stories Behind the Map

Behind every point on the map lies a story. A family that had to leave, a child who battled illness far from home, and a journey shared with the CAP.

  • Specialist medical support in partnership with the Regina Margherita Hospital
  • A comprehensive welcome for the whole family
  • A project supported over the years by the Province of Turin and CSV Idea Solidale

How the BIĆE BOLJE project works

Since 2000, in response to the serious shortcomings in healthcare facilities across the Balkans (in Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro), which were unable to provide transplants or highly specialised treatment for children suffering from complex conditions such as leukaemia.

We provide free and safe accommodation throughout the entire hospital stay thanks to our partnership with local organisations, including Casa Giglio, Casa UGI e CasaOz. We also offer financial and logistical support, assistance with administrative procedures (visas and permits) and language support.

The connection does not end when patients return to their home country. We maintain regular contact with families and local doctors to monitor their health and organise travel arrangements for subsequent regular check-ups in Turin.

This is a significant financial commitment, supported by private donations and the association’s own initiatives. Over the years, it has also received partial funding from the Province of Turin (2004, 2009) and the Idea Solidale Volunteer Services Centre (2005, 2008).
